We’re looking for members for the iGEM 2026 Team Heidelberg!

It’s that time again – iGEM enters the next round

iGEM is the world’s largest international competition in the field of synthetic biology, where student teams develop a self-chosen project within one year. Although the core of the competition lies in synthetic biology, the projects are highly interdisciplinary, involving aspects of physics, medicine, chemistry and computer science.

As every year, we are looking for interested and motivated Bachelor’s and Master’s students who want to tackle current challenges using synthetic biology in various subject areas. We explicitly welcome people from diverse backgrounds — whether biology, medicine, physics, chemistry, computer science, or engineering. Would you like to expand your skills in the lab and/or in bioinformatics? Have you always wondered how effective science communication works? Do you have a great idea for how synthetic biology could help improve the world of tomorrow? Then you’re exactly who we’re looking for! We are also looking for participants without a bioscience background who would like to support us with their design skills, programming abilities, or entrepreneurial drive. The only qualities everyone needs to bring are motivation and positive energy.

Has your interest been sparked? Then you can apply directly online! The deadline is November 28, 2025, and the application form can be found further down the page. If your application is successful, a short interview will take place between December 1st and 5th.

For any questions, you can reach us anytime via e-mail.
We’ll also host a Q&A session on November 17 & 18, 2025, at 6 PM in BioQuant (Room SR43) — feel free to drop by!

We’re looking forward to your application!
